The icy waters of the Atlantic seen from the drive down Chapman's Peak toward Hout Bay. Shot just before 8pm on a warm summer afternoon in January, we stood admiring the view of the mountains surrounding Hout Bay. Families picniced as they watched the sunset. I took a little walk down the hill from the view point to capture this momement as the white seafoam, almost unbroken, outlined the the coastal rocks.

The selected film simulation built into the camera imparts it's tonal characteristic. It used to be a part of the photographer's skillset that allowed them to see a meaningful composition and light. To choose the best film and exposure settings to create the atmosphere they wanted to embody. I shoot with manual settings and single shot (not rapid bursts) as much as possible to recreate that authenticity. My approach with each shot is very intentional rather than 'spray and pray.' I try to impart a bit of myself into each photograph, imperfections included, rather than allowing the CPU and AI in cameras today do the work.
