Unlike #12 Vibrance I chose to err on the side of pastel with this shot from the Bo-Kaap. I felt that the lime and blue combination worked better in less eye-popping tones, and allowed the sky to fit into the image without it being unrealistically oversaturated. The choice of film simulation here is what creates departure from the colour saturation in #12 Vibrance.
The selected film simulation built into the camera imparts it's tonal characteristic. It used to be a part of the photographer's skillset that allowed them to see a meaningful composition and light. To choose the best film and exposure settings to create the atmosphere they wanted to embody. I shoot with manual settings and single shot (not rapid bursts) as much as possible to recreate that authenticity. My approach with each shot is very intentional rather than 'spray and pray.' I try to impart a bit of myself into each photograph, imperfections included, rather than allowing the CPU and AI in cameras today do the work.
