It was our last morning in the Cape for this trip. I headed to the Bo-Kaap in search of vibrance and Koe'sisters (not to be mistaken for koeksisters). I got the latter from two Cape Malay ladies selling snacks under a bridge between houses and the former I found on my way back to the car. This colour combination begged for a vibrant film simulation. Something like Fuji Velvia, to truly illustrate the vibrance of the culture and famous houses of the Bo-Kaap.

The selected film simulation built into the camera imparts it's tonal characteristic. It used to be a part of the photographer's skillset that allowed them to see a meaningful composition and light. To choose the best film and exposure settings to create the atmosphere they wanted to embody. I shoot with manual settings and single shot (not rapid bursts) as much as possible to recreate that authenticity. My approach with each shot is very intentional rather than 'spray and pray.' I try to impart a bit of myself into each photograph, imperfections included, rather than allowing the CPU and AI in cameras today do the work.
